Load Development Test #5- 100 Yards
Unertl 20X target scope
June 11th, 2023 - Good day to do some testing, still pretty humid today. Forgot my rest so had to use a wood block and simple bag for a rest. Not good for grouping as I could watch the crosshairs move .5" between heartbeats. I will try this same load with a good rest on the next go around. Still close to an inch MOA at 100, but I think I may have caused some deviation with those shots.
Reloading notes:
1) 10 rounds at 17.2 Gns of Unique, CCI primer, NEW FL resize with Graphite Lube.
2) 5 rounds at 17.2 Gns of Unique, CCI primer, NEW FL resize with Graphite Lube and cotton filler
So I decided to run a 10 shot string to get a good idea of how the rifle was grouping and how the velocities were actually doing. I also decided to try a cotton filler to see if there was any noticeable difference. There is some very interesting data here for people that are using fillers. While I think it might drop the STD deviation, you are losing massive amounts of energy and I am just not seeing a benefit at this point to try this method to simply burn more powder? The group was not good at all, but this could simply be due to a lower velocity node that the rifle doesn't like. This might be interesting in the black powder world though?
